ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes
ENERGY STAR® is a partnership program with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that promotes energy efficiency. Certified homes help reduce energy use and emissions while lowering utility costs for residents. Your builder is annually recognized by the EPA with the Market Leader Award.
How does this benefit you as a W3 resident?
- Proven value: Better energy efficiency means lower utility costs. Your home uses 15–30% less energy than typical new homes and even more compared to older homes.
- Wall-to-wall comfort: A high-performance heating and cooling system delivers consistent comfort and fresh, filtered air throughout every room—reducing dust, pollen, and allergens.
How a home meets ENERGY STAR standards
Homes meeting ENERGY STAR standards must satisfy strict EPA guidelines. They are at least 15% more efficient than homes built to current code and often 20–30% more efficient overall. Each home’s performance is verified through third-party inspections to confirm accuracy and quality installation.
Key components of ENERGY STAR standards
- Effective insulation — Helps prevent heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer to improve comfort and reduce utility costs.
- High-performance windows — Certified windows reduce energy use, lower emissions, and help protect furnishings from sun damage.
- Efficient duct systems — In standard homes, up to 20% of air can be lost through leaks. ENERGY STAR ducts are tested for tightness and insulation.
- High-efficiency heating & cooling — Approx. 16 SEER A/C plus an ENERGY STAR heat pump to improve comfort, reduce humidity, and use less energy.
- Additional efficiency features — Efficient lighting, ventilation, and appliances.
- 100% LED lighting — Uses about 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and produces less heat.
- ENERGY STAR appliances — Certified refrigerators are about 9% more efficient; dishwashers can conserve approximately 3,900 gallons of water over their lifetime.
- Heat pumps — Installed in every home to significantly reduce heating costs and help residents save during certain seasons.
